Manganese

Manganese is a gray brittle metal. It can exibit peacock like colors on its surface. The metal resembles iron to a degree and will oxidize in the air. It is number 25 on the periodic table. Manganese is a transition metal ('d' block outer valence shell). It is in Group 7 in Period 4. Group 7 elements exhibit some rather unique chemistry since they can exist in several different oxidation states. The metal is paramagnetic which manifests itself by a magnet not attracting it. However, a strong moving magnet next to the surface does affect it.
