Total Lunar Eclipse - Aug 28, 2007

These are just a few shots of the total lunar eclipse that occurred shortly before sunrise in SE Texas on August 28, 2007. There were no binoculars or telescope used to capture these images. (I had to go to work just a little while later so I didn't take the time to do anything elaborate.) They aren't exceptionally clear, but do capture fairly well what could be seen with the naked eye.

Fifteen minutes later, not even this much was visible as the clouds moved in and obscured the view. However, these were taken just before and right at the first moment of totality.

The camera was a Canon Power Shot SD800 IS. The photos were 1 second at ISO 1600 (I think), at an f/5.8 focal length. I had the 3x zoom on (not enhanced) and was holding the camera steady on a fence post. There were many more images taken, but as can be imagined, you do not get very many clear photos when trying to hold a camera steady for a 1 second shot. These are cropped down to show just the moon and a little surrounding sky area.
